MIa Pohlman Awarded 2017 Larry J. Hart Scholarship

Neil Branham presenting to Mia Pohlman

Mia Pohlman is a graduate of Perryville High School in Perryville, Missouri.  She is currently a student at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri working on a Master of Arts degree in Secondary Education and a Master of Arts in English.

Mia shares that education has to be for the benefit of the students and it has to meet them where they are in order to impact their lives.  She wants to help all of her students incorporate their interests in the English classroom to see how reading and writing impact their everyday lives.  She plans to develop relationships with her students so that she can challenge them and encourage them to be all that they can be.

One of her college instructors shares that all of Mia’s college course work and graduate assistant teaching exercises have been exemplary.  She is poised, gracious and brings humor and a positive manner to any activity.  Another professor notes that Mia is a unique presence in the classroom and an accomplished emerging teacher.  A third professor shares that Mia is the best listener she has ever worked with and when you speak to her, you feel really and truly heard and valued as a human being.

It is our privilege to recognize Mia Pohlman as the 2017 Larry J. Hart Scholarship recipient!
