Katherine Nicole Ausmus

2012 L.J. Hart & Company Scholarship Recipient

Katherine Nicole Ausmus of Edina, Missouri, is a graduate of Knox County High School in Edina.  She is currently attending the University of Missouri – Columbia, Missouri majoring in Secondary and Middle School Mathematics.

Katherine shares that she has always wanted to teach in rural Missouri in order to pass along her knowledge to rural students and make them more prepared to attend college or join the work force by preparing them for a diverse society that uses a lot of mathematics.  “I want them to be capable of doing basic mathematics and use their resources to be functioning citizens.  I also want to teach in rural Missouri because of the small, connected network of rural communities.”

One of her college instructors shares that Katherine’s work on the undergraduate research project has been exemplary.  She is a remarkable young woman – bright, hard working, committed and compassionate.  Katherine currently serves as the President of the student organization of future mathematics teachers – a testament to her leadership skills and to the importance she places on service to the profession.

A true leader among her peers in many school clubs and organizations, makes it appropriate to congratulate Katherine Ausmus as a 2012 L.J. Hart & Company Scholarship recipient.
