Christina Marie Kirby

2013 American Fidelity Assurance Company Scholarship Recipient

Christina Marie Kirby is this year’s recipient of the American Fidelity Assurance Company Scholarship.  Christina currently resides at Knob Noster, Missouri. She is currently attending the University of Central Missouri at Warrensburg, majoring in Elementary Education.

Christina shares:  I have fond memories of growing up in a rural school district where my teachers showed interest in me as an individual.  At my childhood school, the foundation was laid for my future as an elementary teacher in a rural school district. Some of Christina’s several experiences have included working with troubled youth in one districts recovery room, and being a risk tutor with AmeriCorps. Working in a rural district, where the majority of the teachers have taught for many years, makes me want to be part of the community that are invested in their students previous, current and future.

One of Christina’s greatest strengths is the depth of reflection she does regarding her teaching.  She is never satisfied with “good enough” and consistently looks for ways to improve her lessons and instructional practice, shares one of her instructors.  Another shares, that Christina designs learning activities with the developmental stages of the child in mind, providing interactive and engaging work for the students.

With a desire to teach in a rural school district and make a difference in as many lives as possible, we extend congratulations to Christina Marie Kirby as the 2013 American Fidelity Assurance Company Scholarship recipient.
