Outstanding Rural Senior High Student

Jillian Burrows

Jillian Burrows is a senior at Smithton High School.  She has attended the Smithton district since kindergarten.  Jillian is best described as one who is a dedicated, focused student with very high standards and goals for success in life.

Jillian is the student that anyone would definitely want others to follow.  The most important aspect of Jillian's excellence is her character.  She is a very strong person who is not swayed by the powers of peer pressure.  She stands by her convictions and is a positive force in the Smithton school.  Although described as quiet, she provides leadership by example.

While attending Smithton High School, Jillian has been active as a member of several clubs and activities, including the National Honor Society, The Varsity Letterman's Club "A-Club," the Math Club, and Student Council among others.  She has also been an instrumental member of the school district's academic team that competed at the State competition last season.  In some of these organizations she is an officer, but in all she is willing to give of her time and efforts to ensure the success of the project and the school.

Jillian currently ranks fourth in her class of 39 graduating seniors.  She has attained this rank through hard work and a difficult schedule.  Jillian does not avoid difficult classes. She has pushed herself to take difficult classes because she knows the importance of education in her life.  In additional to a regular class schedule, Jillian has taken a large number of dual enrollment classes over interactive television.  In addition to excelling in the academic courses, Jillian is also an excellent athlete, having been a part of many successful teams at Smithton, always playing hard and giving her best effort when she is on the floor.

Jillian Burrows has been and is a positive influence for those around her, and she has also been a positive representative of Smithton High School making her most deserving as the Outstanding Missouri Rural Secondary Student for 2008.
