Jessica Ann Mercer

2016 Guin Mundorf Scholarship Recipient

Jessica Mercer is a graduate of Kelly High School in Benton, MO.  She is currently a student at Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, MO working on a major in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies.

Jessica shares that working with children has been her lifelong dream.  She wants to create a “community classroom” where students are cared for and taught to care for each other.  In her classroom, students will know that someone loves them, cares deeply about their learning and has high expectations for all.    Jessica‘s desire to become a rural educator is grounded in her statement that “my heart is in the rural community.”

One of her college instructors shares that Jessica is extremely organized, reliable and industrious.  She has unmatched enthusiasm and works cooperatively and professionally with instructors and colleagues.  Another reference noted that Jessica truly understands the needs of her students and is willing to provide whatever they need to be successful in her classroom.   She will be an asset to the rural district that employs her.

With her commitment to return to her community and give back, we offer our congratulations to Jessica Mercer as the 2016 Guin Mundorf Scholarship recipient.
