Dewey K Fennewald

2013 MARE Scholarship Recipient

Dewey Fennewald is this year’s recipient of the MARE Scholarship.  Dewey is a graduate of the Community High School, at Laddonia, MO.  He is currently attending Central Methodist University at Fayette majoring in Elementary Education.

Dewey shares that perhaps the biggest reason for wanting to teach in a rural Missouri community is that he grew up in the same rural school through the entirety of his elementary and secondary education.  With this positive background experience, he has a good feel for the rural schools.  Picking a small college in the immediate area has also provided access and opportunities in the surrounding area districts that he felt comfortable with.  While attending college, to become more involved with his career path, he has worked as a substitute bus driver and substitute teacher, as his schedule would allow.

One of Dewey’s letters of support shared, “Easy going and friendly are definite adjectives for Dewey.  Growing up in a community where everybody knows you, your family and cares about your success, has equipped Dewey with the ability to extend that same friendless and concern for others.” One of his instructors shares that Dewey has proven himself to be an outstanding student not only in the classroom but with his field experience as he has worked with individuals and groups of students.

Believing that it takes a special person to be part of a rural school system with a willingness to perform many different tasks, makes it appropriate to congratulate Dewey Fennewald as the 2013 MARE Scholarship recipient.
