Shantell Raeleen Rickel Hughes

2012 CTS Scholarship Recipient

Shantell Hughes is a graduate of Savannah High School, Savannah, Missouri.  She is currently attending Missouri Western State University – St. Joseph, Missouri, working on a major in Elementary Education concentration in K-12 Cross Categorical Disabilities.

Shantell shares that her desire to teach has grown throughout school, specifically a desire to teach in a rural community.  One of her favorite things about attending a small, rural school was the teacher involvement in our lives academically.  “My teachers were always providing one on one conferencing for my classmates and me, which in turn, helped us succeed to a higher level.”  Another aspect of working in a rural district is the amount of student and teacher involvement in after school activities, such as clubs, sports, tutoring programs, etc.  While attending rural schools, I always loved, which was weird to me, how much the teachers were involved with communicating with the parents.

A college instructor shares that during Shantell’s Junior Experience, the students responded favorably.  From the first day in the classroom, she demonstrated a firm, positive “take charge” attitude and the students responded positively.  From one of her former instructors, Shantell always exhibited excitement, energy, maturity, and excellence!  “I am amazed at her ability to continually radiate these traits.  She is not only academically inclined but extremely talented as well!

Setting a goal of knowing the kids and their backgrounds in achieving the best education opportunity possible and knowing they are constantly succeeding, makes it appropriate to congratulate Shantell Hughes as the 2012 CTS (Control Technology & Solutions) Scholarship recipient.
