Rural School District

Taneyville R-II School District

Outstanding Rural School District

Taneyville R-II

Taneyville, Missouri

Taneyville R-II School District “Home of the Tigers,” is a small, rural district located in Taney County, in Southern Missouri.  The town of Taneyville is located in the Ozark Mountains, established in the mid 1800’s, and today is located very near to the center of Taney County, which is located within the Branson area.  The Taneyville School District’s current enrollment, of just under 200 students, includes Kindergarten thru grade 8.  The total staff count is set at 42.  Taneyville is a district has been blessed for years with a great leadership and a tradition led by high expectations.

The philosophy of the Taneyville school district is very evident from a brief summary in the district vision statement. All students will have the responsibility to learn, too develop a love of learning, and too learn through experience.

For many years, Taneyville has been a strong academic leader in the area with many students earning academic honors both at the elementary level and as they transition to area high schools to continue their academic endeavors.  Taneyville has earned the ‘Distinction in Performance’ award from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for all the 11 years the award has been presented.  This is certainly a demonstration of their commitment to academic excellence.  It is also a testimony that small rural schools can rise above the norm and excel to high levels of academic rigor.

The community certainly values education and supports their rural school.  Over the years funds have been raised to support educational programs and the integration of technology as a tool to motivate and support academic excellence.  Facing the many challenges in the last few years of decreased funding, the district continued to work to maintain high standards.  In the last six years, the district has added a new elementary wing and a preschool as well as improved its technology holdings to include two full time labs and a student to computer ratio of less than 2-1.

The Taneyville School may not have the largest student body, the most money, or the biggest buildings, however, they are “Outstanding” because of the great students, great teachers, great staff, and great support from the parents and the community, including a very progressive and involved board of education to lead the way.  Congratulations to the Taneyville School District board of education, the administration, the staff, students and community, for a job well done and your selection as the Outstanding Rural Missouri School District for 2012.
