Kristen Mick

2012 M.A.R.E. Scholarship Recipient

Kristen Mick is a graduate of Dexter High School, Dexter, Missouri.   She is currently attending Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, majoring in Elementary Education.

Kristen shares that she has many fond memories of the rural way of life through both her grandparents, who were farmers and the fact her parents had grown up on a farm instilled in her a love of land and community.  Growing up in a rural community, she enjoyed the small, close-knit communities.  As a teacher in a rural community, “ I believe I would have the insight into the importance of furthering the understanding and appreciation of a rural area as well as providing a great expanse of knowledge as it relates to larger regions.”

One of her college instructors shares that Kristen has personality plus.  People and students are drawn to her.  She is a natural leader.  Although she does not have to be the center of attention, others naturally follow by example.  During her classroom work with students, she has developed and delivered lesson plans of exceptional quality and is always seeking and searching for innovative ideas in delivery of lessons to students.  A former teacher shares that Kristen was an active member of the school community. She was always involved in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities while maintaining a good grade point average.

Setting a goal of taking the job of educating children very seriously, we extend congratulations to Kristen Mick as the 2012 M.A.R.E. Scholarship recipient.
