Diedra Duryea

2009 MARE Scholarship

Diedra Duryea 2009 David M. Cooper Scholarship

Diedra Duryea is this years recipient of the MARE Scholarship.  Diedra attended and graduated from the Cole Camp High School, Cole Camp, Missouri. Diedra is currently attending the University of Missouri - Columbia, Missouri,  She is working on a degree in Elementary Education.

Diedra shares that growing up in a rural area has made her want to return to a rural environment to teach.  As a rural student, she has been able to gain a valuable education that would not be possible anywhere else.  As a future educator, she believes that close connections with teachers are essential to having a successful class.  Not only did the teachers help students learn basic skills, but through that relationship, valuable life long lessons help make a better person.

One of her former teachers shares that Diedra displays several characteristics that naturally draws people to her, helping to make her the leader that she is.  Having had the opportunity to work with Diedra in three plays, she showed great enthusiasm, talent and dedication by taking on her parts with gusto, learning her lines more quickly than other cast members, maintaining character on stage, and becoming one of my most animated actors.

One of her college instructors shares, "I am honored and delighted in writing a recommendation for Diedra Duryea.  When she entered my classroom at the University, I saw a young woman wanting to be a teacher, striving for excellence in each assignment and excited about each experience in teaching young children." "Her outstanding strengths are her good self-esteem, her poised nature and a general disposition that expresses a zest for life."

Congratulations to Diedra Duryea, the 2009 MARE Scholarship recipient.
