Rural Secondary Teacher

Jared Werges, Johnson Co. R-VII

Outstanding Rural Secondary Teacher

Jared Werges

Johnson County R-VII School District

Jared Werges has been educating young people for the last five years in the Crest Ridge High School.  Mr. Werges teaching experiences have been focused in the subject areas of American History, American Government, Psychology and Sociology.  Two years ago, he earned his Master Degree and is now teaching a Dual Credit American History class through the University of Central Missouri.

Mr. Werges is described as one that is an extremely knowledgeable teacher who brings a great deal of enthusiasm to his students.  He has a great passion of the subject matter and works to instill the same feelings in his students.  He presents the material in a manner that engages the students’ interest so they have a greater understanding of the concepts.  Jared is the kind of teacher that is always on the lookout to help the students and look for new strategies.  He demonstrates flexibility and is not scared about implementing new curriculum ideas.

This past fall, Mr. Werges American Government class scored very well on their EOC’s, with one student receiving a perfect score.  As EOC testing as evolved, Jared has taken the data the school receives and uses it, as well as other state standards to adapt the material he is teaching to ensure students are successful.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Werges serves as the High School Student Council sponsor.  He plays an important role in developing the student leaders of the school.  Under his guidance this group holds a fall and spring blood drive as well as many other school and community improvement projects.  Jared also makes a connection with the middle school students by serving as the boys’ basketball coach.  Through his building of positive relationships with students, he provides the needed discipline and structure to these young men, that he brings to his classroom.

A dedicated, outstanding educator, playing a significant role in the success of the students at Crest Ridge High School, makes it appropriate that we congratulate Jared Werges as Missouri’s Outstanding Rural Secondary Teacher for 2012.
