Before 1993 local school board members were not required to receive any formal orientation or training. That changed with the enactment of Senate Bill 380. "The Outstanding Schools Act of 1993," which required that all new school board members have at least sixteen hours of orientation and training within one year of their election or appointment. MARE a statewide educational association, has provided training for the past eight years. Beginning with the 2002-03 school year, the training program includes 16 hours of discussion/interaction with the board trainer. (Video instruction for certification no longer an option.)
Newly elected Board of Education members, candidates, or experienced Board of Education members interested in training should contact their superintendent or the executive director to register for training.
