Non Toxic Mark Removal
During the first three MARE Custodial Workshops, many questions were asked. How to remove marks from walls, desks, floors and other surfaces came up from 1/3 of the attendees. Second to that question, was how to achieve this task in the most Eco Friendly way possible.
Since it is now law to attain "Green Cleaning" practices and products, I will bring up two possible methods and products.
Multi-Purpose Cleaning Paste...This is a non-toxic, chlorine free, environmentally friendly product that comes in a paste; much like toothpaste. Normally it is found in a small tub and is odorless. I small amount of this paste is put on a damp rag or sponge. The water and the paste are rubbed on the surface that has been marked and polished till the mark is removed. Rinse with clear water and a new wiper.
Second is the "Eraser" sponge. Known as "Magic Eraser" - "Amazing Sponge" and many other names. This is normally a small foam-like sponge measuring 1" thick, 2"x3". It is made of melamine foam and is used damp. The water and the eraser properties of the melamine combine to remove the offensive marks. Since the foam breaks down rapidly, it may be best to look for a unit that has a filler material sandwiched between layers of foam to give the worker longer use of the tool.
Hopefully this will help you in finding "Green" solutions to an age old issue of removing marks. Some marks are more than simply a mark. They are Graffiti and these may require other methods.
