MARE Partners with Grandview R-II to Provide Virtual Summer School Options
The Missouri Association of Rural Education has partnered with the Grandview R-II School District to provide opportunities for school districts in need of virtual summer school courses. According to program director, Dr. Michael Brown, this partnership will allow those districts that do not offer summer school, options for their students in need of specific courses. The program has been in existence for a number of years and many who have utilized the program have had positive experiences as noted below:
"I was asked to provide you with some feedback on the Grandview R2 virtual summer school program. We have had many students utilize this program over the past several years and the students have been very satisfied. It has allowed our students to pick up additional credits in the summer to free up their schedules to take other classes during the year. In addition, it has allowed students to take courses which we do not offer at our school. Overall, we have been very satisfied." - Jill Shanley, Guidance Counselor
"I am writing to inform you of the excellent opportunity that some our students participated in last summer. The Grandview R-II School District offered virtual summer school. Our small high school only offers credit recovery credit, so the students that want to take enrichment classes must take summer school classes in larger neighboring school districts. Some students are not able to go to another district for various reasons, such as, transportation issues or lack of time due to camps (athletic, faith-based youth, and leadership (Boys and Girls state, HOBY, ect.)) We only allowed about 10 students to try Grandview’s virtual program last year. We are planning on using this program again because we received transcripts in a timely manner and students reported that the coursework was vigorous and worth their time." - Megan John, Counselor - East Newton High School
"I have used Grandview for my summer credit recovery for the past three
years. My students have been very successful and I have never had a
problem getting questions answered right away. It is a very good
program." - Brittany Gaines, Counselor - Miller R-III
