Rural Elementary Teacher

Travis Goosen

Travis Goosen is a self-motivated, hardworking and a thoughtful teacher.  Only in his third year as a valued member of the Otterville Elementary faculty, Travis works tirelessly for his fifth grade students, with an outstanding exceptional ability of being able to bring a wide range of life experiences which he quickly brings to life in an engaging and exciting manner in his classroom.

Mr. Goosen exemplifies a rural educator in that, staff in small districts, are tasked with a wide variety of jobs.  Travis quickly welcomes the chance to help students whether entertaining numerous grade levels prior to an assembly, running the clock at sporting events, or coaching a variety of sports.  He dedicates his time after school to tutor students that are struggling and offers enrichment to students that are thriving through the districts Eagle Power Hour Club.

Mr. Goosen’s greatest strength lies in her total commitment to student success.  He has the ability to quickly realize where particular students may be struggling and quickly offers words of support and encouragement.  Having a great command of what makes a great lesson, his students always know what the objective is and he uses pedagogy that would make Madline Hunter proud.

Mr. Goosen greatly impacts his students’ lives.  From his innate ability to communicate with children, parents and colleagues, having a “Kids First” philosophy and someone that is self-motivated and goal oriented, sets him apart and makes it appropriate that we congratulate Travis Goosen as Missouri’s Outstanding Rural Elementary Teacher for the 2014-2015 school year..
