Outstanding Rural Board of Education

Kingsville R-I School District

Like most rural schools, the Kingsville R-I Board of Education members not only serve the school district, but are hard working individuals from various walks of life.  While not all the members have children in school, all are very active in attending and supporting school activities and clubs such as PTO, Booster Club, sporting events, fundraisers, etc.

The "Agenda" of the Kingsville School Board is always keeping in mind  what is in the best interest of the students and staff when making difficult decisions.  It has been the desire of this board that they be a good liaison between the school and community.   No matter the pressures from others, the board always votes their conscience in making student success their number one value.  This board has a personal and vested interest in the district's accomplishments, for the fact that most of the members of the board are graduates from the Kingsville district.

The Kingsville district goals are broad, realistic, and lofty.  The school board members maintain high expectations of the administrators, teachers, staff, and students.  As described by a member of the staff, "The members listen to the facts and base their decisions on what is best for the students.  In a small community decisions directly impact their friends and neighbors.  The focus is always on providing a quality education for the greatest number of students." Through the board support, the school district has on several occasions earned the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education  Distinction in Performance.

This board is recognized for some of the challenging decisions made over the last 18 years, that often difficult, were made to benefit the students.  A new high school has been provided, a new multipurpose room, a new elementary wing, renovation of the older elementary and existing high school buildings and the addition of classrooms and a new shop area.

Whether it is participating in a fundraiser, helping with the installation of equipment, or making repairs, all the board members take an active part in helping.  It is this work ethic that serves a foundation of trust between the board and the community making the Kingsville Board of Education deserving of the honor as the Outstanding Missouri Rural Board of Education for 2008.
