2007 Outstanding Rural District Administrator

Donald Quick

Donn Quick is currently the Superintendent of the Lafayette C-I School District at Higginsville, Missouri.  His commitment to students and education began thirty-three years ago as a classroom instructor and for the last thirty years he has held different administrative positions.  He has proven to be a "true professional."

In analyzing his thirty-three years of dedicated service to education, Donn may best be described as a tireless superintendent who always holds the quality of education and quality teacher for all students to the highest level.  He never varies from the mark of always striving to improve the quality of education for students, even when those decisions are not the easy or popular choice.

During his tenure with the Lafayette C-I School District, he has worked tirelessly in the community to build support for the school district.  Through Mr. Quick's leadership, the C-I school district was awarded the Accreditation with Distinction for Improvement in Performance; was able to revise the districts accounting procedures to bring accuracy and efficiency to the district; established a preschool program for 3 & 4 year olds; expanded the vocational facilities to enhance the vocational agriculture and vocational technology programs; established a Before and After school - School Aged Child Care Program; and most recently the passage of a $4.75 million bond issue to construct a Science Center, Library/Media Center, Gymnasium and a Student Service Center.

Mr. Quick has also been actively involved in the support of programs in the county and other school districts.  Donn was a vital part of the process of writing and securing a grant to provide mental health services for students in Lafayette County.  Donn has on more than one occasion made that difference for the "Student Success Center" and Lex-La-Ray Career Center.  Donn stepped to the plate when the "Student Success Center" the alternative school was dropped by the sponsoring school district.  He worked with his and other districts to help make up some of the difference in funding and student attendance, allowing the program to continue until other revenue streams and districts could be found.

Donn is a leader at the local level, a leader at the conference level, and a leader at the district level.  He has held numerous positions at all levels, but he does not just hold the position, but actually uses the opportunity to make a difference, because it was what was "best for kids".  When you enter his office it is evident Mr. Quick is all about kids; you will not only see banners displaying the athletic victories of the district, but also banners celebrating the academic achievements of his students and framed artwork done by his students.

Donn Quick is a tireless supporter of Missouri public school education and especially rural schools, the leadership that exhibit's the qualities as the Missouri Outstanding Rural District Administrator for 2007.
