Custodial Training Workshops

Moberly School District, December 29 & 30, 2009

MARE Custodian Workshop Outline

Registration Form

Day One

7:30 - 9:00         Microbes, MRSA, H1N1 & Flu Prevention

This first hour of instruction will focus on "Change".  Before we start "Cleaning for Health", we must first understand what Pathogenic Bacteria is and how it lives, multiplies, adapts and moves.  This will give the custodial professional insight into the best practices to control microbes in the workplace.

Controlling MRSA, H1N1 or everyday bacteria is having the knowledge to know where, when and how to clean to protect ourselves and others when we change our focus to "Cleaning for Health" and no appearance.

9:00 -10:30       Restroom Cleaning Made Easy

If you haven’t used “No Touch Cleaning”, now is your chance to get your hands on it and see what it is all about.  Attendees will be able to see how to make this task less of a chore, while improving the outcome.  We will use the ATP meter to test results and prove why this new way of cleaning one of the perceived worst areas, is quickly becoming the routine, not the exception.

10:30 -11:45     Missouri Green Cleaning Guidelines for Schools

This 26 page document has many things to understand if your district wants to do the right thing and be green in its cleaning design.  We will dissect this law and see how best to implement the goals, practices and functions.  This will most certainly benefit those students, staff, visitors and parents that make use of our educational facilities every day.  Green is not a trend, it is reality.

“We should maintain a clean, healthy educational setting through improved systems and communication while reducing potential negative impact on cleaning staff and occupants”.

11:45 – 12:30             Lunch on Site

12:30 -3:00                 We will get up and work!

After a morning of sitting, we will explore some of the ways to control or interrupt the movement of Pathogenic Bacteria in the educational setting.  We will examine the use of modern cleaning tools and chemicals to help the custodial staff focus on “Cleaning for Health”.

Day Two

7:30 - 9:00  Green Cleaning and Your Facility

Now that you have an idea of what the outline is for Missouri schools, let's find out how to audit you building and then put programs in place that will enhance everything from your labor to you quality of performance.

9:00 - 10:15    Resilient Floors

The most labor consuming area of all custodial cleaning.  During the summer, these areas can consume more dollars of a budget than any other.  For years, we have fought the battle of stripping and refinishing.  Grout...we don't even want to talk about it.  Can we clean floors without pads?  What about stripping finish without chemicals?

10:15 - 11:45    Carpet Cleaning Programs

Spotting…the age old question of why a carpet has to look ugly all year!  We will look at ways to make this less of a chore and examine... "Why does that spot come back"?  Encapsulation is a new term for many.  What can it do for your carpet cleaning program?  Use it and find out.  Wet vs. Dry has and will always be the question.  Maybe both!  After lunch we will use both and explore the benefits & pitfalls together.

11:45 - 12:30   Lunch on Site

12:30 - 2:30   Out of the Chair and let's clean some floors.

We will use the latest in floor cleaning technology and find out if you can really clean

grouting without a pad.  Carpets and how to make them look great all year...not just for

the start of fall semester.

2:30 - 3:00   Results, Questions & Certificates

During this last hour of the two days, we will look at the results and question what we have learned.  The true test of whether this time spent has been worthwhile is the quality of the information that is available to take back to the district.  It is our goal to make the attendees more knowledgeable and able to use the provided tools in the best way possible.  It is only right that the cleaning professional have a certificate of completion...don't leave without it.
