Mission: The Macon County R-IV School District will graduate responsible citizens with a positive self-image who demonstrate high academic, ethical and moral standards through an environment conducive to career development and life-long learning. |
|
|
The Community: The Macon County R-IV community is primarily rural with an agricultural-based economy. Sixty-one percent of the students live in a farm setting. Most of the non-farming employment opportunities are in the surrounding communities of Marceline, Brookfield, and Macon. Ethel, Missouri, just north of New Cambria, is a unique little town of 100 residents that has become quite a tourist spot. The former school building houses a bed and breakfast, The Recess Inn. Nearby is The Heartland Lodge which hosts guided hunts for sports enthusiasts. Both attract visitors from across the nation. The New Cambria business district is quite small, yet it supports a bank, sale barn, café, gas station, and various other local businesses. The community supports the school quite well, as evidence by a $4.85 voted tax levy. |
